Chicago-Style Italian Beef’s Popularity Soars Thanks to ‘The Bear’

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) — Interest in Chicago’s favorite sandwich, Italian beef, has been skyrocketing lately thanks to the hit show on Hulu “The Bear.”

According to Google Trends, inquiries about the city’s delicacy have almost doubled since the series was released.

The show is set in a Chicago sandwich shop specializing in the local favorite and the arduous life behind the scenes in the family business kitchen.

Local restaurants like Gunselman Tavern in Fairview Park, say the Italian beef on their menu is quickly becoming their number one seller.

The Buonavolanto family, from Buona Beef in Chicago, has been making Italian beef sandwiches for three generations. They have seen an incredible increase in interest in their products and methods since the show’s release.

They now distribute their authentic Italian beef, locally produced bread and special giardiniera blend nationwide to give fans of the show a taste of authentic Chicago.

This week on Cleveland Cooks, Dominic Freddura, head of creative content at Buona Beef, shared the three most popular and controversial ways to make the famous sandwich.
