Frank Zappa’s “200 motels” extended for their 50th anniversary

A super-luxury edition of Frank Zappa 200 motels The soundtrack will mark the album’s 50th anniversary.

Released in October 1971, the original LP contained music related to his surreal film of the same name, although not all of it appeared on screen.

“Fully licensed by the Zappa Trust and produced by Ahmet Zappa and Zappa vault master Joe Travers, the monstrous 200 Motels 50th Anniversary Edition brings together the soundtrack, newly remastered by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, as well as a staggering amount of new and rare material, ”said a statement. This material includes “original demos, studio shots, working mixes, interviews and movie commercials as well as newly discovered dialogue reels, revealing a first audio cut of the film. A wealth of unreleased audio material surrounding the project is also included.

Set includes 64 page hardcover book, movie poster replica, keychain, motel door hanger and new sleeve notes. “Years of manufacturing, all audio was meticulously identified and transferred over several years as Travers dug in the vault to create a new high-resolution digital stereo patchwork… from the original analog tapes,” the statement read.

The full list of tracks can be viewed below. 200 Motels 50th Anniversary Edition will be released on November 19. A limited edition double LP, a standard two CD and digital editions will also be on sale.
