James Charles regrets calling Ariana Grande the crudest celebrity of all time.
The beauty YouTuber hosted an Instagram Q&A on Wednesday (September 15), in which a fan asked, âWhat did Ariana Grande do to make you say she’s the celebrity? the crudest you’ve ever met? “
In response, Charles wrote: âLiterally nothing. The fact that I said that is one of my biggest regrets of my career and it still follows me 4 years later which sucks. I plan to talk more about it when I film my review of REM. [Grande’s beauty line], all I can hope for is that people listen with an open mind.
Charles initially made the remark about Grande in a 2018 YouTube video, in which he opened up about his “really shitty experience” with Grande and dubbed the pop star the “grossest celebrity.”
The diss was born out of an interaction between the two on social media.
After Charles attended one of Grande’s concerts in Los Angeles and tweeted about the show, Grande followed him on social media and texted him to let him know she didn’t know that he would come to the show and that she would have loved to meet him. behind the scenes.
Just three hours later, however, she stopped following Charles after some of his past callous and outrageous tweets started to go viral and upset her fans.
“I was like, ‘Hey, did I do something wrong? And she literally said, ‘Hey babe, I’ve seen a lot of angry tweets from my fans and I would never disappoint them, so I unsubscribed,’ “Charles explained in his YouTube video.
At the time, he said it was “really disappointing that you wanted to, like, lower yourself to listening to people harass me, just to, like, appease them, but okay.”
âI have always admired Ariana and I think she is one of the most talented singers of our generation,â he added. “But it sucked that I was literally intimidated by her fans and instead of just ignoring her and building a friendship, she literally listened to them and didn’t follow them, which just means it’s good to do. It was a disappointing interaction. “
