Michael Knowles soars to # 1 on Amazon after NYT snob

Mute by Michael Knowles of the eponymous Daily thread the show skyrocketed to # 1 on Amazon across all categories.

Knowles, author of the classic without words Reasons to vote for Democrats: A Complete Guide, wrote another book that tops the charts.

Knowles has sold nearly 18,000 copies of Mute During the week ending June 26, thousands of advances on the finalists of former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell, according to Publisher’s Weekly.

What’s special is that Knowles wrote the best-selling non-fiction book in the country, but the book is missing from The New York Times bestseller list of the top 15 books featured by the left-hand publication for the same week.

Instead, the outlet lists books as June 17, which BookScan says sold less than 5,000 copies that week, just over a quarter of Knowles’ sales. To hold 13th place is Someone’s daughter, a memoir on “growing up a poor black girl in Indiana with a family shattered by incarceration,” which does not appear anywhere in Publisher’s Weekly.

The New York Times claims that its list is based on sales figures, but that it obtains its data on a “confidential basis” from selected booksellers, then estimates total sales based on an extrapolation, the Daily thread reports. “The panel of reporting retailers is comprehensive and reflects sales in tens of thousands of stores of all sizes and demographics across the United States,” the Time says the methodology.

The site says its ranking reflects the unit sales reported by sellers “offering a wide variety of public interest titles published in the United States.”

This means that the Time the numbers are not meant to follow the same as the numbers from BookScan, which form the basis of the lists published by The Wall Street Journal and other journal publications, the Daily thread reports.

Regnery chairman Tom Spence, who heads the publishing house responsible for Knowles’ book, said something clearly was wrong, if it is reported that the work would have far surpassed all other works by no. -fiction, according to BookScan, but didn’t even make it into the top 15 by Time Standard.

“One of the results of the BookScan service, which now reports almost all retail book sales, is that there are two types of bestseller lists: those that reflect the number of books sold and the New York list.
